Happily, they rode off to Westport Elementary School and to the Alice B. Macomber Primary School.\u00a0\u00a0 The boys are flush into their second day as I type, one in fourth and one in first grade. \u00a0 There is much to love about this school system, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westportschools.org\/\">Westport Community Schools<\/a>, and there is much for me still to learn.<\/p>\n<p>We moved here from Pawtucket, Rhode Island when my oldest was about to enter first grade.\u00a0 The school system in Pawtucket was not good, he started\u00a0his first\u00a0year in a class with over forty kindergarteners and one teacher.\u00a0\u00a0 They remedied this, but it took two weeks.\u00a0 The building itself was a shambles and the administration was weak.\u00a0\u00a0 The playground was asphalt and the slide was broken the entire year.\u00a0 My husband and I walked the halls of Westport Elementary and both got teary when we recognized the energy of a good place, a place where kids can have fun, the adults are educated and caring, and there is SPACE for growth and development.\u00a0 Three years later, we still feel the thrill when we walk into the buildings.\u00a0 We feel like we are doing right by our kids.<\/p>\n<p>AH.\u00a0 It was a very good day.\u00a0 We were so relieved and happy.\u00a0 We are still very proud to have our kids in the Community Schools.\u00a0 The teacher go above and beyond <em>all the time<\/em>, sometimes with very little acknowledgment.\u00a0 Even the women in the offices are pleasant and helpful and full of personality.\u00a0 (I have no knowledge of the middle school or high school but I am assuming the best, based on everything I have seen thus far:)<\/p>\n<p>Please get involved.\u00a0 Each school has a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and there is the Westport Music Boosters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Westport-Music-Boosters\/154838367936072\">(LOOK ON FB)<\/a>\u00a0group which sponsors and supports the Music Programs in the schools.\u00a0 The Westport Education Foundation and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westport-ma.com\/coa\/\">Council on Aging<\/a> have put together another <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westporteducationfoundation.com\/?page_id=296\">Walk for Westport <\/a>which will be a fundraiser for both organizations.\u00a0 A perfect split!\u00a0\u00a0 (I&#8217;ve got to do some research on the Council on Aging, they&#8217;ve got a lot of offerings that I don&#8217;t know about yet&#8230; look for a post!)\u00a0 This year will be the first time we have made it out there, as it has always conflicted with soccer&#8230; I am really looking forward to a walk by the beach.\u00a0 The kids&#8217;ll bring their bikes, the babe will be stroller-ed and I expect to see\u00a0many elements of our community out on walkabout.\u00a0 Its going to be fun, and potentially awesomely beautiful.\u00a0 This town is just incredible, heartbreakingly beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We packed two kids onto buses this week.
